Periscope house

The Periscope House is crafted by architects Xaveer Claerhout, Barbara Van Biervliet and artist Adriaan Claerhout from Metamorphic Art Studio.
This creation explores and combines architecture with periscope structures as a gravity battery. By constructing below ground level, the Periscope House banishes the dreary basement ambiance, creating a gentle microclimate. The design features vertically moving mirrored walls at a perfect 45-degree angle, unveiling visual and spatial possibilities. Solar-powered servo engines raise the mirrors during the day, offering captivating views. This eco-conscious architectural creation merges artistry, sustainability, and metamorphosis, shaping a transformative world where physical and virtual realms converge.

The Periscope project is the winner in the prestigious ARCHITIZER A+ Awards in the category Residential-Unbuilt.

With the Periscope we also won the international BLT award in the category “Architectural Design” and “Sustainable and Energy Saving”, plus an Honourable Mention from the Jury.

We also received the prize: Honorable Mention in Architectural Design / Conceptual Architecture by ARCHITECTURE MASTERPRIZE
