ARCHITECTURAL ‘JOIE DE VIVRE’

article in printed magazine

“Current possibilities in parametric design and construction, combined with sustainable thinking, encourage architecture to embrace forms inspired by nature. We believe that an irreversible evolution has begun, rather than a temporary trend. Straight lines are rare or non-existent in nature.”

Xaveer Claerhout and Barbara Van Biervliet undoubtedly form one of the most striking architectural couples in the country. Xaveer, an art historian and architect, was educated at La Cambre, while Barbara is an engineer-architect. They talk and design, complementing each other quickly and sharply as if they were one creative entity. In recent years, they have made a name for themselves nationally and internationally with numerous stunning realisations. Today, we had the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with them about two magnificent reinterpretations of the Zoute style. In their home base of Knokke-Heist, they are designing a fabulous villa with characteristic curves a stone’s throw from the Royal Zoute Golf Club, and in Duinbergen a royal duplex penthouse of the already iconic Cap Horn project with one of the most beautiful 270* views of the Belgian coast.
