“An inconspicuous village house in Knokke was completely renovated. A new extension was added to the back of the house. The ground level of the garden and living space was significantly lowered to create higher ceilings and better light admittance into the house. On the roof of the garage building at the back of the small garden, a swimming pool was added. This pool, though it remains invisible from below in the garden and living room, adds a marvelous holiday feeling to the house. Simple but warm materials such as wood, concrete with plank structure, and natural stone are used to create a timeless and spatial experience. The house is part of two terraced houses owned by the same family. A wooden sliding door between the two gardens makes it possible to create one garden when the grandparents want the children to play in both parts of the garden, or the door can be closed when they feel the need for privacy.”
