“An inconspicuous village house in Knokke was completely renovated. A new extension was added on the backside of the house. The ground level of the garden and living space was lowered significantly in order to create higher ceilings and better light admittance into the house. On the roof of the garage building on the backside of the small garden a swimming pool was added. This pool, though it remains invisible from below in the garden and living room, adds a marvelous holiday feeling to the house. Simple but warm materials such as wood, concrete with plank structure and natural stone are used to create a timeless and spatial experience. The house makes part of 2 terraced houses owned by the same family. A wooden sliding door between the two gardens makes it possible to create one garden when the grandparents want to have the children play in both parts of the garden or the door can be closed when they feel the need for privacy.”
